Flowers of Namaqualand Tour 2021 -- 7 days
Departing from Port Elizabeth August and September 2021 – we will see how many guests we have from Port Alfred and Grahamstown and possibly make an alternative departure point.
This is a stunning tour which is more than looking for the very best flowers. We spend 7 days making new friends and looking for the best flowers. We visit some really unusual out-of-the-way places of Natural and historical interest in the Nama Region of the west coast of SA. We explore and discover places known to few South Africans
Please note that there is minimal walking required.
Departure dates are planned as follows:
Sunday 8th August. This is planned for an 8 x day tour to allow us to spend a night in Hermanus in the hope that we may see whales as an additional bonus to the tour.
Then we have set weekly departure dates for the Standard 7 x day tour as set out in this Itinerary

Day 1. Leave from PE at 7.00am to Jansenville and Graaff Reinet for tea
Onwards to Victoria West and Loxton
This evening we sleep in Carnarvon or nearby. Look out for the Corbelled Houses
Day 2. Calvinia for breakfast at Hantam Huis with gardens opposite. Biggest post box; Museum in
Look out for the Statue – The pen is mightier than the sword.
Nieuwoudtville for tea at Ebenezer Hall. Botanical Gardens; Nieuwoudtville Wild Flower reserve; Doorn River Waterfall; Botanical Garden; Matjiesfontein for flowers; Kokerboomwoud at Gannabos; Vanrhynspass and lookout point.
Van Rhynsdorp overnight. (Vanrrynsdorp cottages)
Day 3. Northwards on the N7 West Coast highway. Breakfast at the padstal in Garies; Letterklip.
Kamieskroon to Namaqualand Wild Flower Reserve. Die Dak van Namakwaland alternatively Kamiesberg Flowers or surrounding areas. Hondeklip Road may be good.
Springbok; Nababeep, Mine Museum and Glory Hole; Goegab Nature Reserve
Overnight at the Springbok Lodge
Day 4. Heading South on the N7 back to V Rhynsdorp for Breakfast
Clanwilliam - Rooibos Tea Factory; Ramskop wildflower Reserve and the Dam
Pakhuis Pass; The Englishmans Grave; Louis Leipold Grave; Rock Formations
Travellers Rest and Sevilla Rock Art Trail for Bushmens Paintings
Citrusdal and By Die Dam for a Braai and overnight.
Day 5. South on the N7 to Piekenierskloof; Piketberg for coffee
Velddrif and Laaiplek: Marshland at the Berg river Mouth for Flamingos and Cormorant; Paternoster for Breakfast and then Langebaan.
Westcoast National Park and Postberg Or Darling flowers.
Overnight in Riebeek Kasteel Goedgedacht
Darling Sweet factory
Evita se Perron and Museum.
Day 6. Tulbach and Wolseley Watershed.
Nuwekloof Pass; Michells pass; Ceres (Breakfast).
Past Prince Albert’s Hamlet; up the Gydo Pass to Op Die Berg. Kouebokkeveld; Skurweberge; Witzenberg. Theronsbergpass
Touwsrivier – Drive Through past the Old Train Station.
Look out for Shosholoza; Blue Train and Rovos Rail.
Matjiesfontein – Museum; Bus ride; Lord Milner Hotel; Olive Schreiner history.
Day 7. Our last day ---North on the N1; Prince Albert for breakfast at the Lazy Lizard.
Meiringspoort and Langkloof via Harlem; Krakeel; Joubertina back to the N2
And home mid afternoon.
This is a planned itinerary which may differ. We will be looking for the Very Best flower areas and historical points of interest. Departure dates – 8th; 17th & 25th August. 2nd September.
